The original ‘smiley’ was created by commercial artist Harvey Ball in 1963. Concerned about the commercialization of the iconic graphic, Harvey established Smile Day, which encourages you to participate in acts of kindness and to smile and make others smile. Since that first World Smile Day® in 1999, it continues every year in Smiley’s hometown of Worcester, MA and around the world.

On World Smile Day® the theme is “Do an act of kindness. Help one person smile!”.

Octoberis National Breast Cancer Awareness Month which is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of screening and the early detection of breast cancer. About 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point during her life. After skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common kind of cancer in women. Right now there are more than 2.9 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. The good news? Many women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early. A mammogram – the screening test for breast cancer – can help find breast cancer early.
Make a difference! Spread the word about mammograms; the life you save may be your own or someone you love!
Encourage women age 40 and older to talk with their doctors about when to start getting mammograms.
Talk with women ages 50 to 74 in your community about getting mammograms every two years.

SEPTEMBER 21 – International Peace Day
International Peace Day seeks a global cessation of violence and war. Each year on this day, celebrations are held in hundreds of countries, all with the same goal in mind….to stop war and violence. Created and sponsored by the United Nations, this day seeks to end war, starting today.
The goal for this day is “a day of non-violence and cease fire”. Wouldn’t it be nice if this day succeeded and spread, country by country, day by day, until there is no more war or violence. Can this goal ever succeed? Imagine.
